Sybil Barrett is a woman of many talents. Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts she is no stranger to the hustle and grind in life. She is the middle child to Melvin and Brenda Barrett. Because she was always coming to the defense of her younger brother and older sister, in order to keep them from getting in trouble with her parents, her father would always tease her by asking “What are you? Their lawyer?"
After attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Washington University in St. Louis, School of Law, Sybil did become a lawyer. The challenge of having a baby in her third year of law school only served to motivate her to pass the Massachusetts bar exam at age 25.
However, practicing law didn’t satisfy Sybil. Her adventurous spirit has led her to switch her career path a half dozen times. She went from being a lawyer, to a stock broker, to a real estate broker, to a chef, to a strategic sourcing consultant, to a filmmaker.
In the words of Sybil, “You have to bet on yourself. You have to put yourself on. You can’t wait on others to help you. Most of them are too busy waiting on someone to help them.”
Understanding the need and demand for more female participation behind the scenes Sybil started the entertainment company Girl Power Entertainment, LLC and the non-profit organization Girl Power Productions. Her goal is to create content for film and television that is female friendly. And if the boys like it too, even better.
